Mounting an ionizer in an electronics production area can be challenging. Ideally, an ionizer will meet the ESD Protected Area’s performance standards while not interfering with normal activity at the workstation. The ionizer should be pointed directly at the target area where ESD susceptible devices are located. The ionizer’s fan speed can be increased to…

From all of us here at Desco, we would like to wish you a safe and Happy Holiday season! We will be closed on Friday, December 25th and Friday, January 1st. As always, thank you for your business and the opportunity to provide you with an ESD solution!

Using snaps has long been the most common way of making a grounding connection (wrist straps, ground cords, etc) in ESD control products, but snaps have some drawbacks. Snaps can be easily unsnapped or damaged, and they are not normally used for making an electrical connections. Desco manufacturers a better design that is more durable and cannot be easily disengaged.

The design used in Desco’s dome style ground cords is made with a 10mm (0.395 in.) male threaded snap. Dome style ground cords are sometimes called a Floor Mat Ground, but they can be used on work benches too. With a screw and washer installed from the backside of the mat, the ground cord can be secured to the mat to reduce the opportunity for the mat to become ungrounded.

Electrostatic discharge (ESD) is the sudden flow of electricity between two electrically charged objects caused by contact, an electrical short, or dielectric breakdown. The natural phenomena of ESD has been occurring for as long as our planet has been around and apparently it has been a problem for much of that time.  A recent post…
